This reminds me of those photograph maps of the Earth, probably made in the stratosphere or outer space, where the colours are governed and determined by the temperature of the region shown. So the large black shape here, could be a large lake or meandering river. The large black 'blot' near the top-right corner could be sinkhole. And so on. Here of course you've used a 'camera' so good and sensitive that it can include any people standing in the area too!
